Kim Kardashian at the 2010 CEW Beauty Awards

Kim Kardashian attended the 2010 Cosmetic Executive Women Beauty Awards at New York’s Waldorf-Astoria hotel, May 21st, 2010. Kim wore a beautiful one shoulder coral dress and her hair was pulled up off her shoulders. Her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic created an absolutely gorgeous, soft and feminine look fit for the occasion, and now he is sharing his secrets on how to recreate this beautiful, refreshing look.

How to makeup tutorial:

FACE
On her skin I applied Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation blended with a bit of moisturizer, and used LaMer concealer under her eyes. I then set her face with Shu Uemura loose powder.

For a subtle glow, I sweep EYE M GLAM highlighter by Giella Cosmetics onto the cheekbones, bridge of nose and cupids bow, and applied Hot Mama blush by The Balm.

EYES
For her eyes I swept EYE M GLAM highlighter on her lids and on the inner corners of eyes to brighten and open up the eyes, and used a touch right on the brow bone too. I also filled her brows with MAC Brow Pencil in Linering, and lined the top lids with Lancome’s Art Liner extending it out and up past the eye.

I then applied Sephora Collection Flashy Liner in Flashy Brown on the inner rim of her eyes and smudged a bit along the lash line too, and finished the look by curling her lashes and applying two coats of Smashbox Hyperlash Mascara in black to both top and bottom lashes.

LIPS
Finally for her lips, I applied JK Jemma Kidd Sheer Vanity Gloss and Glaze in Belle de Jour.

In the Hot Seat With Celeb Makeup Artist Mario Dedivanovic

Celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic has worked with a lot of starlets, but his work with Kim Kardashian has garnered him recent attention in the media. Regardless of your personal feelings about the famous-for-being famous reality starlet, it’s undeniable that she looks gorgeous whether she is rocking sparkly eyes and bold lips or her signature nude pucker. Dedivanovic willingly sat in this month’s Hot Seat about summer suggestions and trends, his predictions for fall and what he must have tucked in his kit.

Beauty News: What are the summer trends you can foresee and/or predict?Mario Dedivanovic: Clean and healthy looking skin, with minimal foundation or products is always a popular look for summer.

I also think we are seeing a lot more brightly colored lips as we approach the summer months. Women are experimenting more with colors like orange and red, and the very brave gals are even choosing matte formulas over glosses.

BN: How about fall?

MD: I think liquid liners in various colors – blues, greens, coppers – are going to be a hit in the fall. Women are getting bored with their same makeup routines and are looking for something really different and perhaps fun. Bright lips will certainly carry on into the fall months as well.

BN: Now we have to pick your brain for tips. Share one with us!

MD: A great time saving trick for fall is to throw on a bright lip, even out the skin and apply mascara. Applying less eye shadow will definitely save you time in the morning.

BN: What’s one product in your kit that you cannot live without?

MD: Right now, I can’t live without EYE M GLAM, the all over highlighter from Giella cosmetics. It brightens and highlights the skin beautifully with a sheer golden glow. You can use it on the eyes, cheekbones and anywhere on the body.

BN: One makeup tip that EVERY woman needs to know?

MD: When and if you use concealer under the eyes, be sure to set it with a bit of translucent powder. The powder will prevent your makeup from creasing and your liner from running down your face.

BN: What’s the biggest difference working with celebs and translating that to every day women? How does that work?

MD: Makeup for the everyday woman is very different than the makeup I apply to a celebrity. The main difference being that for a celebrity, makeup is usually done while considering the lighting from red carpets, TV or photo shoots. The makeup is more detailed and there is just more makeup applied in general. A girl going to school or to work would most likely feel uncomfortable with such a glam or made up look. If I do a friend’s face or my sister’s, I typically apply with a lighter hand and I use less product.

BN: Do you prefer dramatic eye and muted lip or muted eyes and dramatic lips and why? And tips or twists on these two looks you can recommend?

MD: I prefer a dramatic eye paired with a muted color on the lips. I just love the eyes and it is really satisfying to be able to change the shape of the eye or make the eyes look more awake. There are also a lot more options with eye makeup, like blending, lining, creams, powders. When creating a dramatic eye, try using a matte or satin finish lip color to keep the look more modern.

BN: Any insider secrets you’d like to share for taking a look from day to night?

MD: False strip lashes are amazing. They are a really quick and easy way to take your look from day to night. To apply them, curl our own lashes, apply mascara and then follow with the strips. It’s instant drama for your face.

Beauty Q&A with Mario Dedivanovic on Spring '10 Makeup Trends

Okay. So by now you know we are slightly obsessed with the mega talent of celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic. Here's a little Q&A he did with The BeautyXposé Blog about Spring 2010 makeup trends to help feed the need! Enjoy!

BX: What do you think are the hottest new makeup trends?
MD: Lashes! I’m a big fan of lashes and I think we’ll be seeing longer, thicker and fuller lashes in 2010. Tanned/bronzed skin will be big also. (The fake kind, hopefully.)

BX: Will bright bold lips last through spring or fizzle out?
MD: Bright bold lips will certainly last through the spring. In fact, they will last forever for many women. A bold lip is gorgeous with no other color on the face and a nice, full lash.

BX: What about cat eyes? Will the winged liner look hold out this year?
MD: For sure. The winged liner is another look that will always be in style to many woman. I think we’ll see cat eyes all over the place and maybe done in metallic and different shades of liner.

BX: Do you think mineral foundations will continue to be just as popular with the everyday woman? What about at home airbrush systems?
MD: Mineral Foundations will be even more popular with women. I think companies will be coming out with more advanced, anti-aging formulas as well. Home airbrush systems are very cool; however I think it’s a very hard sell and not the most user friendly.

BX: If there’s one item a woman should add to her beauty arsenal right now, what is it and why?
MD: A foundation that matches her skin. The skin should look flawless always. Everything else is just “extra.”

Your go-to makeup look

Dedivanovic shares this how-to that's totally professional -- and easy to do: Step 1: Apply a light to medium coverage foundation, then use a liquid concealer under your eyes. Step 2: For a natural-looking glow, apply a sheer cream blush to the apples of your cheeks using your fingers. If you're trying to look younger, apply a highlighter (like Eye M Glam Highlighter, $35) on the inner corners of your eyes and across your cheekbones. Step 3: Define your eyes by curling lashes and applying one to two coats of mascara. Step 4: Add a pop of color to your lips by using a lipstain (try Benefit Benetint, $28) and applying a lip balm or sheer lipstick over it. Skip dark or bright colors and lipgloss -- all of them say "sexy," not "professional." Step 5: Finish with a bit of translucent loose powder to set your look.

Interview With Mario Dedivanovic, Kim Kardashian's Makeup Artist

I recently had the opportunity to catch up with celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic (he's Kim Kardashian's makeup artist, in addition to many other celebs!). His superhuman talent slays me, so I HAD to get the scoop on everything form his fave products of late to how he broke into the biz. Here's what he told me:

Beauty Blogging Junkie: How did you get into makeup?
Mario Dedivanovic: I got into makeup at 17 years old when I was hired at Sephora as a fragrance consultant. Woman would come up to me daily to ask my opinion on makeup colors and products and I never hesitated to help them. Lets be serious: if someone did not ask for my help, I would still offer it!

After some begging and convincing, I was allowed to "make over" a lovely woman a few weeks into the job and despite my taking about two hours to complete the makeup, It actually turned out well and she was happy. After that, I became obsessed with the art and the rest is history!

BBJ: What's most rewarding and most challenging about your job?
MD: Being a makeup artist is incredibly rewarding on so many levels. When I physically see a woman feeling more beautiful and confident as a result of my makeup, it's rewarding beyond belief--that experience keeps me motivated and inspired.

There are also many challenging aspects to my job. As a makeup artist, you have to collaborate with and please a lot of people--the client, the photographer, the celebrity, the creative director, etc., etc. Finding a way to make everyone happy with your work, including yourself, can be challenging at times, but life would be too easy without a challenge--and overcoming challenges can be very rewarding!


BBJ: Well said, doll! Tell me: What is your top makeup tip?
MD: Blend everything! Blending makes the world of difference.

Start with a little bit of product and add if necessary. Its always easier to add then to take away.
Choose the right shade of foundation and concealer. Make sure your face isn't a completely different shade then your neck. If it is, blend some into the neck as well.


BBJ: What are your top three favorite products?
MD: I have so many favorites and they're always changing. Right now, I'm loving Anastasia Lash Lifting Mascara, Dior Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Hydrating Foundation and Make Up For Ever Lift Concealer for under eyes.

I’m very excited to share with you my interview with celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic also known on Twitter as makeup byMARIO. Like Celebrity Makeup Artist Scott Barnes who is famous for revolutionizing Jennifer Lopez’s red carpet makeup looks, Mario Dedivanovic is creating the same magic for Kim Kardashian. Quite genius.

Besides his work with the lovely Kardashian, Mario who began his beauty career at a young age as a makeup artist behind New York City retail counters is securing a place among the world’s best and most well-known makeup artists. He has collaborated on countless editorials and red carpet looks for celebrities, all of whom showcase the skill, talent, personality and attention to detail that is brought to every transformation he creates.

In this interview Mario Dedivanovic talks to Marta Walsh about his first memories falling in love with beauty and makeup. The most memorable red carpet makeup looks he created for Kim Kardashian. What’s in his professional makeup bag. What and who inspires him. Reveals one or two things you might not know about him. And, future plans.

Marta Walsh: Where do you call home?
Mario Dedivanovic: JFK airport! I’ve been traveling a great deal so I feel like I live in hotels and airports. I was born and raised in the Bronx and live in NYC. Since I stay in Los Angeles so much as well, I will most likely get a place there too.

MW: What were some of your first memories of falling in love with makeup and beauty?
MD: I was in love with all things beauty since I can remember. I discovered my love of makeup at 17 years old while working at Sephora as a fragrance consultant. I was given permission to give my first make over and after three hours, the woman looked in the mirror and hugged me. I was instantly addicted to doing makeup and to making women feel beautiful. That very day I began to research anything and everything on the art of makeup. I was determined and very focused on my new career.

MW: At what point did you realize that your career as top celebrity makeup artist is really taking off?
MD: Now I’m blushing! Thank you for that kind title. I felt very proud when top magazines like InStyle, People and Seventeen were quoting my makeup tips and tricks. Its an honor to be recognized by these publications.

MW: You are the genius makeup artist behind many of Kim Kardashian’s stunning red carpet makeup looks. How did your working relations come about?
MD: I met Kim a couple of years ago when I was booked to do her makeup for the cover of Social Life magazine. We hit it off and got along really well. I even took her makeup shopping right after the shoot!

MW: Which makeup looks that you’ve created for Kim Kardashian were the most memorable to you?
MD: I have never done the same makeup on Kim more then once! It still amazes me that I’m able to give her different looks every time we work together. I love her face in any look that we go for but some of the most memorable are the Vegas Magazine shoot, the Emmy’s blue eyes look and the all nude look from Super Bowl weekend. I also really love her with very clean makeup like I did on her for the recent Harper’s Bazaar shoot and Fusion Beauty Campaigns.

MD: I’ve worked with Natasha Bedingfield, Elisa Dushku, Amanda Bynes, Lil Kim, Michelle Williams, Adrienne Bailon, Gina Gershon among others…

MW: Which quick and easy makeup tips can you share with women everywhere to help them look more glamorous?
MD: Something quick and easy that makes a difference is curling the eyelashes before applying mascara. Really opens up the eyes.

MW: What’s in your professional makeup bag? Which makeup and makeup tools you just can’t live without?

Kim Kardashian's Makeup Artist Mario Reveals His Beauty Secrets

Admit it, you envy Kim Kardashian for her gorgeous skin, makeup and overall glammed up look on the red carpet. What if we told you we found her secret weapon?

Makeup artist to the stars, Mario Dedivanovic is giving Hollyscoop the low down on how he gives Kim that radiant red carpet glow--as well as some other amazing beauty tips. Read on beauty lovers...

What kind of lashes do you use on your clients to give them a dramatic look?
Mario: “I use different kinds of lashes - both strips and individuals. It really depends on the look I'm going for. I love the Ardell brand of false lashes. MAC individual lashes are a favorite too and often times I make my own design using strips or individuals - I glue pieces together or cut into them to get my desired look.”

What foundation or concealer do you use under your clients eyes to give that radiant look?
Mario: “Under the eyes, I use concealer. If the area is very dark, I'll use a cream concealer first like Laura Mercier's secret camouflage and follow with a liquid concealer on top. I love the new liquid high definition concealer from Smashbox cosmetics.

How can us regular folks get that gorgeous red carpet glow on our skin?
Mario: “Very easily actually! I created the perfect highlighter for Giella Cosmetics called Eye M Glam. It gives a sheer golden glow to the skin and you can use it anywhere on the face or body. I always apply some to the cheekbones, bridge of nose, inner corner of eyes and on the collarbones. I literally can’t work without it - it makes my clients look so polished and radiant. What one key product do you use on your clients to help flatter their skin?
Mario: “I would definitely say the Eye M Glam highlighter. I use it on everyone and anyone because it flatters the skin with a youthful glow.”

How do you make sure your make up doesn’t melt off during a night out on the town?
Mario: “Try using a primer first because it will help makeup to last longer. For longer lasting makeup, its important to powder the skin after foundation. Powder will hold everything in place.”

Are there any products you use before to make sure your make up stays in place?
Mario: “Not really. I just always set makeup with powder to keep everything in place. Sometimes I will spray Fix + by MAC over everything to help set the makeup. If a client has dry skin, I spray The Mist by La Mer all over face after makeup is complete. It adds moisture and sort of wakes up the skin.”

Are there any products that you use to get rid of shine?
Mario: “There are different products and/or techniques for this. Sometimes I start off with a anti-shine cream on the T-zone. This absorbs the oils and leaves the skin with a matte finish. Oil blotting tissues are also amazing. Use them throughout the day or night to absorb oils without messing with the makeup.”
