Kim Kardashian talks The Spin Crowd
Kim Kardashian certainly knows her way around a red carpet. Now, the reality star is executive producing a new TV show that promises to reveal what really goes into planning a star-studded event.
Spin Crowd, which focuses on Command PR, a publicity firm run by two of Kardashian’s closest pals, Jonathan Cheban and Simon Huck, premieres Aug. 22 (10:30 p.m. ET) on E!
“Every episode, it’s a different client calling them to get an event going. There’s so much drama behind press events,” Kardashian says of the show. “There will be a different celebrity featured in every episode, so it’ll be really fun.”
Cheban, who spoke with PEOPLE during a press day for Spin Crowd, says the new show will give viewers a glimpse into the world of celebrity and pop culture, including “how it’s in the magazines, how it’s on those Web sites, how it’s getting done.”
At times, that means answering to intimidating personalities. “I was nervous to meet [and work with] Shannen Doherty because she’s the infamous … ” Huck says. “But she was great. She was beyond. She was so direct.”
While they’re running their business and catering to star clients, cameras will capture the very Hollywood lives of Huck and Cheban. “The show is about how I live,” Cheban says. “It’s my standards, it’s my places where we eat, and the way we run the offices and the way we do stuff.”
And that includes the occasional outrageous request. “I apparently made someone get lip injections on the show,” Cheban says. “I have pretty high standards and I just suggested it to the girl.”
As for Kardashian, who is stepping behind the camera for a change, her pals say she’s the perfect person for the job. “Anyone who’s worked with Kim from a PR side will tell you she’s a dream,” Huck says. “She gets it. Like when she’s at an event, she’s like, ‘Oh, do you want me to do solos? Do you want me to do a group shot? Do you want me to hold the product like this or like this?’ She knows.”
Kardashian acknowledges that being a reality show producer is a tough task, but says she’s getting the hang of it. “In the edits, you want to make sure everyone comes off really well, and it’s very time consuming,” she says. “[But] it kind of showed me, okay, I do want to be behind the scenes.”
